What is STEM

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics — in coherence instead of in isolation. STEM education provides opportunities for students to be able to solve problems, to be innovators, inventors, self-confident, logical thinkers, and technologically literate citizens. It gives a skill set that governs the way we think and behave. Merging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM education helps us to solve the challenges the world faces today

Why STEM?

The 21st century job market requires a new set of skills, and there is more emphasis on STEM skills. Industrialisation and economic diversification require knowledge of Mathematics and Science.STEM fosters creativity and critical thinking in young people to enable them work in a competitive world and bring about sustaianable development and improve national competitiveness in the global economy. Therefore, STEM education aims at giving students skills that make them more employable and ready to meet the current demands in a knowledge-based society.

STEM Learning

  • Project Based Learning
  • This method encourages students to learn skills and apply their knowledge by taking part in a project through research and create a solution to a problem.

  • Problem-Based Learning
  • Problem-based learning uses real-world issues as the classroom's learning activities to develop problem-solving skills, creativity and learn concepts not facts.

  • Inquiry-Based Learning
  • This is a form of active learning that starts by posing questions, problems or scenarios in order to develope critical thinking, questioning and problem-solving.

Science

About ImagesIn STEM, Science is taught as an integrative subjects using inquiry-based and application-oriented approach through hands-on activities in order to develop critical, Sand analytical thinking to foster responsible attitudes towards the social, economic and natural environment.

Technology

About ImagesIn STEM, Technology is an integrated,hands-on program designed to prepare students to solve problems and construct solutions by using a variety of technological tools, machines and computer systems through application of mathematics and science concepts.

Engineering

About ImagesIn STEM, Engineering is used to solve real world problems using Science, Mathematics and Technology. Engineering finds ways to make ideas considered beneficial to human kind a reality. It’s the application of scientific and mathematical principles to design and manufacture products.

Mathematics

About ImagesIn STEM Mathematics involves offering students challenging, engaging, and relevant problems in an interdisciplinary and applied approach to help students develop creativity, reasoning, and problem-solving skills that align with the goals of STEM education.
