What is STEM Education?

This is an interdisciplinary approach in learning that removes traditional barriers of separating the four disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics that form the acronym STEM and integrates them into real-world, (localized and international), but relevant learning experiences for learners (Vasquez J. A., Sneider. G., Comer. M., 2013).


In STEM, Science is taught as an integrative subjects using inquiry-based and application-oriented approach through hands-on activities in order to develop critical, creative and analytical thinking and creative skills to foster responsible attitudes towards the social and natural environment.


In STEM, Technology, as an area of interdisciplinary study, is the system of practical Mathematics and scientific knowledge, concepts, techniques and ideas that leads to the development of products that extends human capabilities.


In STEM, Engineering is used to solve real world problems using Science, Mathematics and Technology. Engineering finds ways to make ideas considered beneficial to human kind a reality. It’s the application of scientific and mathematical principles to design and manufacture products.


In STEM Mathematics involves offering students challenging, engaging, and relevant problems in an interdisciplinary and applied approach to help students develop creativity, reasoning, and problem-solving skills that align with the goals of STEM education.
